ASEAN Fellowship Program

Program

IIT Bhubaneswar is proud of being a part of the ambitious ASEAN Fellowship Program of MHRD, India. We welcome aspirants from ASEAN countries to be part of our research activities through our Ph.D. Program. We are dedicated to provide quality education and research environment in various frontiers of science and technology. Applicants can apply online on the central portal (http://asean.iitd.ac.in). Those selected get a chance to finish their PhD with funding at par with their Indian counterparts from the Government of India. The funding covers the entire cost of study and living expenses for up to 5 years of their PhD programme.

Institute

Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar is established by the government of India in 2008 under The Institutes of Technology Act 1961 with Amendments upto 2012. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012. IIT Bhubaneswar became an Institute of National Importance from 29 June 2012 with notification of Amendment in the Institutes’ of Technology Act, 1961 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, (Department of Higher Education) Government of India published in the Gazette of India dated 2 July 2012.

It has been a wonderful journey for Eleven years, during which the Institute grew steadily with its mission to become globally competitive. While the initial years went into creating transit facilities and establishing different academic operations, the four and half years have been very crucial, through which we have achieved a phenomenal growth and the institute completely operating from the permanent campus. The institute took several pioneering initiatives in multiple fronts, towards achieving global competence such as the following:

  • Rising of standards of the institute in all fronts to international level,
  • Creating near-global class infrastructure – the institute is one of the top few campuses, already,
  • Global search for quality faculty and faculty of foreign origin,
  • Internationalization of its academic programs
  • Enhancing of professional accountability in teaching and research,
  • Encouraging quality than quantity in research,
  • Establishing international collaborations on research of high industrial & societal relevance,
  • Doubling of PhD scholars’ intake in the next 3 years.

International Collaboration

Our Institute’s numerous collaborations with foreign universities, industries and institutions across the world provides a scope to the students to be exposed to the global trends in education, research and industry. Ample opportunities in both national and international stints for internships, research projects and exchange programs has been a prominent trend among our students. Some of the collaborating universities include, Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick, UK; Washington University in St. Louis, USA; University of Massachusetts Dartmouth USA; University of Southampton UK; National Oceanography Centre (NOC) UK; Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute USA; University of Concepcion, Chili; University of Surrey, London, UK; University of Manchester, UK; University of British Colombia; University of Quebec, Canada; University of Waterloo, Canada; York University, Canada, Texas A&M University, USA. In the past 11 years the Institute Co-offered degrees to 1810 students (B.Tech, M.Tech, Phd, Msc etc.)

Fellowship Details

Maximum tenure of each fellowship5 years
Stipend per monthINR 31,000/- for the first 2 years, INR 35,000/- for the next three years
Research grantUp to INR 170,000/- for research expenses such as travel, books, contingency
Accommodation/Monthly House Rent Allowance24% of the stipend, if hostel accommodation not provided
