Syllabus:
Introduces classical works of literature that hugely influenced societal institutions- The advent of the novel form and the seminal novels that instigated social changes in history-Literary and artistic works published during the times of urgent political and social unrest- (Jewish Holocaust-World War II)-Socially significant fiction that initiated conversations on race and race relations including the political, social, and economic freedoms of ethnic and minority groups- Discussion on gender and identity in contemporary society with a discussion of iconic works of fiction- Writers and filmmakers who have dealt with the themes of class relations and social inequalities-Includes literary studies and popular culture- Explore the complex relationship between the individual and the wider society in which they belong to- form and technique of realist fiction-to what manner fiction influences society and vice versa.
